SocialEngine, a Los Angeles-based custom social network and online community platform, announced it has been sold to Room 214, a Boulder-based digital marketing agency.
“Having worked with large brands with fanatical fans, we have unique insight as to what makes successful communities,” said James Clark, SocialEngine’s co-president and CEO.
“This insight is also relevant to the current limitations of established social networks. There are tremendous opportunities for powerful and exciting interest-based communities where individuals want to explore and connect with those who share their own passions.”
“We are impressed with Jason and James’ experience in building online communities and strongly believe they have the management skills and vision to take the company to the next level,” said Alex Benzer, former CEO and co-founder of SocialEngine.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
The sale will keep a majority of SalesEngine’s development team and its customer service team in place and add additional engineering resources. The company will move its headquarters to Boulder.
“We are excited to work closely with the large and committed SocialEngine developer community to extend the performance and functionality of our core SocialEngine PHP and SocialEngine Cloud product offerings,” said Jason Cormier, co-president and CMO of SocialEngine.
