Room 214 is Hiring: Marketing Analyst

By Libby Turner     |     November 21, 2017

Let’s start with why our employees joyfully spend many of their waking hours at this place we call “work:”

Room 214 believes in working with talented (yet humble) people to create inspired work that makes our hearts race, challenges us, and has a positive impact.

We seek a Marketing Analyst to execute qualitative and quantitative research on customers, brands, industries, and campaigns, and deliver practical recommendations to guide ideation and strategy for our clients. The role is about gathering and synthesizing words and numbers into useful real-world insights that inspire us to find novel ways to deepen connections between brands and customers.

You’ll be part of the Strategic Insights team. We’re known for debating marketing trends, blockchain news, the Oxford comma… you know, fun stuff!

Show us what you’ve got! (aka requirements)

  • A scholar’s credentials – you have a Bachelor’s degree and (ideally) 2+ years’ experience in marketing or advertising, brand strategy, consumer insights, or other strategic role with a digital bent
  • A data geek’s brain – you have the marketing intelligence chops to design quantitative and qualitative research, conduct interviews, and uncover unique sources of insight, and are familiar with social listening tools and secondary research resources
  • A social butterfly’s ear – you get social media and keep tabs on related trends
  • A sleuth’s curiosity – uncovering and reporting on hidden trends gets you excited
  • A poet’s point of view – you can combine strong analytical thinking/writing skills with an ability to synthesize data into meaningful recommendations (and maybe even have samples to prove it)
  • An organizer’s fastidiousness – you can prioritize and track many projects with ease
  • A proofreader’s eye – errant commas bum, you, out
  • A digital native’s software skills – things like APIs, R, and pivot tables don’t terrify you (though you’re not necessarily a serious coder)
  • A humanist’s empathy – we’re a humble but passionate bunch

What will you do? (aka key responsibilities)

  • Research – uncover and present practical insights and opportunities derived from market trends with a focus on each client’s unique customers, brand, and industry
  • Strategy – translate research into functional guidelines for growing our clients’ businesses including positioning, personas, customer journey, and messaging
  • Measurement – recommend benchmarks for measuring client marketing efforts
  • Reporting – deliver periodic reports on campaign impacts and optimizations as well as industry trends, while also guiding long-term strategic development
  • Tools & Sources – stay abreast of emerging software and trends in the online listening and monitoring space
  • Planning & Visioning – participate in department planning and annual vision writing

You get bonus points for: (aka the nice-to-haves)

  • A super-scholar’s credentials – an advanced degree in Advertising, Marketing, Business, or related field
  • A creator’s drive – you are deeply passionate about music, cooking, macrame, scrimshaw, or other creative pursuits and actively share your love with the world
  • A technician’s skills – you are familiar with social media analytics
  • A wordsmith’s hand – you’d rather craft a thoughtful blog than a dry “white paper”
  • A scientist’s methodology – you can experiment and test even the wackiest ideas

Some of what we have to offer you:

  • Great culture and environment, including game room, dog-friendly office, and Kevin (our kegerator)
  • Profit sharing
  • Annual hiring referral bonuses
  • No vacation policy (everyone takes time off as needed)
  • Open book management – guided by ZingTrain
  • Health benefits
  • Matching, immediately-vested 401k plan
  • Phantom stock plan
  • Smart people to learn from
  • Cutting edge experience
  • Working for Outside Magazine’s No. 7 Top Places to Work in America
  • Friends for life

How you will succeed and grow at Room 214:

We believe in leading with humility, acting out of love instead of fear, and doing our best. If this sounds like you, then we should meet!

Those who succeed here tend to:

  • Walk the talk – our mantra is “creating valuable relationships”
  • Do whatever it takes to get the job done, and work to be on top of their game
  • Focus – they can turn off distractions and socializing, but still like to have fun
  • Stay motivated to go above and beyond without being asked to
  • Understand the difference between productivity and activity (and meet deadlines with productivity)
  • Handle pressure and become more engaged as situations get tighter
  • Not worry about job titles, but are more focused on doing their best work rather than “climbing the corporate ladder”
